With connections ranging from Royals to rugby players, and residences from Scotland to São Paolo, the little black books of London’s new crop of society jewellers are as impressive as their sparkling confections.
But rather than using their celebrity contacts simply as models, they’re more likely to get them on side to raise money for charities they’ve started themselves. And instead of holding out for occasional red-carpet paparazzo shot, they prefer sophisticated socialising: auctioning their work at glitzy charity events, holidaying with glamorous friends, and even masterminding sporting tournaments attended by the Middletons, to rival anything at Lord’s or Ascot. He also knows the Branson Children, whose cousin Ned RocknRoll married Kate Winslet in 2012. ‘Ned and I designed the rings together.’ Goode explains the wedding bands and engagement rings he made. ‘I did feel a little bit of pressure!’ He also designed the engagement ring that Sam Branson presented to his fiancée Isabella Calthorpe. ‘That was completely unique,’ he says. ‘I incorporated angel wings into it, which have a personal meaning for the couple.’
